I have been so seriously slacking on my book reading. I have so many fabulous books to read and haven’t made a dent yet. I feel like I’m just in a whirlwind of crazy lately and can’t even find time to go get my eyebrows waxed, much less read a book. However the crazy is going to get a little better in July, and I am going to get my bookworm on. I love to read and just need to make time to do it. Period.
I make “Ta-Da” lists instead of to-do lists, and I am working on mine for my reading list over the summer. I’m giving it a movie/television theme because who doesn’t love a good theme, and reading books that turned into a movie or were written by an awesome chick on TV (because I still have to finish Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling’s books). I was inspired by Kristen’s Movies That Were Better Than Books post.
Helen’s Summer Book Ta-Da List
Big Fish: I’m starting with Big Fish because I got my hands on a free copy last night and love this movie more than anything. Seriously it’s in my top 5. I can’t wait to read the book even though I hear it’s disappointing.
Paper Towns: I read The Fault in Our Stars before I saw the movie and cried both times. I feel like I need to do the same with Paper Towns before it comes out this summer to get the full effect.
Something Borrowed: I’m almost embarrassed I haven’t read this yet. Saving this one for a fun beachy read…if I ever make it to the beach.
Stardust: Another one of my favorite movies that I need to read the book. I think I attempted it once and never finished.
Silver Linings Playbook: Had no idea this was a book first. Definitely adding it to my Ta-Da list.
Marley and Me: I’ve now made Molly watch the movie twice, and she has only lived with me for two weeks. I think it’s time I read the book.
The Virgin Suicides: Another movie I think is just great. Who knew all these movies came from books? Oh wait…everyone but me.
The DUFF: Again…didn’t know this was a book, but I want to see the movie and haven’t yet so I feel like I should read this first.
then, of course:
Yes Please: Because I only made it through the introduction before getting busy.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me: I also own this one and haven’t read it…I need to get busy!
I’m linking up with these cool chicks today, and you should too! Let me know what books you’re reading and what movie themed books I should add to my list.
ahhh thanks love!!
okay first off. Big Fish is disappointing, but only a little. it's a super short read and as long as you keep your expectations kind of low (don't compare it to the movie) it's not a bad book.
I LOVE Stardust. It's amazing. It's different than the movie, but I think they both stand on their own quite well.
and yay something borrowed! don't be embarrassed 😉 you should read the 2nd too, they are adorable.
paper towns is on my list as well! definitely want to read it before the movie. oh and i really really hope you like the duff, i seriously enjoyed it a bit too much haha.
i haven't read the silver linings playbook (LOVED the movie, i would have read it beforehand if i had known) or the virgin suicides (seen the movie but haven't read the book).
can't wait to hear what you think about all of them!
Great list! I started reading Paper Towns awhile ago but haven't been reading at all lately. I need to get back into it and I want to finish this before the movie. It looks so good.
Yes Please is soooo good! It's the perfect combo of funny and inspirational
So many good choices. I've read a good bit of what you've listed and if you're going to prioritize, read Paper Towns, Marley and Me (I actually refuse to watch the movie because I love the book so much and don't want it ruined), The Virgin Suicides (way more details in the book than the movie), and The DUFF (I haven't seen the movie but from what I understand, the entire premise is changed from the book to the movie). Something Borrowed was a good book as were Amy's and Mindy's.
I haven't read the other ones but I've seen Big Fish. GREAT movie.
The Virgin Suicides was a great book.
Virgin Suicides and Marley and Me are both great movies, had no idea VS was a book! I bet the book is even better 🙂
This looks like a super duper "TA-DA" list. I like to cry in books and movies, but I can't bring myself to read or see Marley and Me. Go ahead. Call me a big baby 🙂
I'm curious to think what your thoughts on Silver Linings Playbook will be. I read it before the movie and they're very different. It's one of the few times where I liked the movie better.
I just read DUFF and I liked it. I always forget about Big Fish but I love that movie sooooo much. Maybe I should check out the book too.
I love this list! You should definitely add The Girl On The Train. I've heard SO many good things about it so I decided to read it and couldn't put it down. I just finished it last night 🙂
I typically do not read the book if I've already seen the movie. I will do it the other way around though!
Love your ta-da lists! So awesome! Please read Mindy's book. I loved it! I wasn't a fan of Paper Towns but neither was I a fan of TFIOS. I loved Silver Linings Playbook the movie. I wonder if the book is any good.
I really want to read Amy and Mindy's books, both are hilarious and have heard great things.
You need to add "The Luckiest Girl Alive" to this list!
