Today, I’m discussing how I incorporate technology into my goals for weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I use technology every day to track, plan, and motivate myself to achieve my goals.
I’ve discussed several applications I use briefly in my “How to Drink More Water” and “DietBet” posts. However, today I’m going to discuss in a little more depth all the apps, products, and trackers I use on a daily basis.
Let’s do it!
First and foremost, I use my FitBit like it’s my life support.
I use my FitBit to track how active I am. My steps, my activity, my weight, my calories, my sleep quality, how much water I drink a day, etc. FitBits are great motivation. I have my step goal set to 10,000 steps, and those little flashing lights taunt me everyday until there are five full solid lights.
FitBits are actually fashionable and conventional as well. I have the wristband, but they have smaller trackers to wear inside your clothes as well. The bands come in a ton of colors and aren’t terribly expensive so you can always match your outfit.
BONUS: FitBit partnered with Tory Burch and came out with a Tory Burch FitBit Collection. I’m lusting so hard for the gold band, but they still have Tory Burch prices so I’ll just have to lust from afar.
Whatever my FitBit app can’t do, MyFitnessPal can! These apps are awesome to use together because you can link them. So if I enter my calories into MyFitnessPal it will appear in my FitBit app.
MyFitnessPal is great for controlling your caloric intake. I set my goal to stay below 1200 calories, but if it takes into consideration how many steps I take or any exercise I do from my FitBit app and adjusts accordingly. I log all of my meals into MyFitnessPal. This is where knowing how many calories are in what you eat comes into play. Last week, I started a series to help you with this. I have the next edition coming tomorrow so stay tuned!
DietBet is my biggest motivator! If money is up for grabs, my competitive side definitely rears it’s ugly head. I did a whole post about DietBet and how awesome it is a few weeks ago, so I won’t go into too much detail.
DietBet is an app (or you can use the website) where you can join games by paying a joining or buy in fee. Then you have four weeks to lose 4% of your body weight. Everyone who achieves 4% at the end of 4 weeks splits the pot. P.S. I already met my goal.
In addition to tracking everything I do, I also use technology to plan my workouts. I go to my local LA Fitness for workouts, and they have an app too! My favorite way to work out is group fitness classes, so I can pick my classes directly from the app, register, and add the class to my calendar.
Finally, I don’t use ClassPass yet but I am on the waiting list and patiently waiting on my invitation. ClassPass is a monthly membership that allows to visit boutique fitness studios and take their classes without a membership to each specific studio. You can take dance one night, yoga another, barre the next, and finish out the week with martial arts. All you have to do is sign up for the class on your ClassPass app. You can see why I’m dying for my invitation!

Hey I am a fellow fitbit user. I am OBSESSED. I was just going to break down and get the Tory necklace but then the new bands came out. Got the HR on order instead and I am doing the FitForFood thing now too. I track calories on MFP , too! I am so glad to find this blog! Do you accept awards from bloggers? I nominated you for the Liebster if you do: https://losingscrews.wordpress.com/2015/02/05/the-liebster/
I don't use anything right now, but I've been seriously thinking about the FitBit. Love the Tory Burch collection!! My boyfriend is experimenting with a couple different apps right now and I feel like I'm missing out!
[…] got my ClassPass that I mentioned yesterday, and I was so excited I had to sign up for a class tonight. There was a Red Hot Yoga […]
I don't even remember life before my FitBit! Thanks so much for the sweet comments and the award!
My FitBit has changed my whole life! I LOVE it. It's so easy to track everything, so I definitely recommend it. Let me know if he finds an app he loves!
I want a fitbit but I have a polar watch. I can't decide if to give up mu polar or not!
Let's be friends on fitbit! My friend has the Tory Burch fitbit and it looks really nice from afar but it doesn't feel that nice when you put it on and for that price, that's definitely not happening in my book. I'll be here rocking my pink rubber fitbit happily.
I don't know about the polar watch! I will have to Google! Let me know what you decide??
Good to know! That cuts down my lust level a little bit!
