How to Read More in 2016

The new year has me so empowered to change and be better. I’m only 11 days in, but I hope it sticks. I’ve been working hard in my 21-Day Fix. I’ve been doing my workouts, following my nutrition plans, and drinking tons of water.

Last night, I started my teeth whitening kit. I will review that in a few days after I’ve finished my first batch of treatments.

I’ve even been taking care of my blog. I’ve been responding to comments and posted 5 times last week. Hear that?? 5! That’s unheard of around here. I even had a post become one of my most popular posts.

So while I’m taking care of my body and my blog, I also want to take care of my mind. One of my many goals in 2016 is to read more. This was one of my goals last year too, and I failed…miserably. I’m not going to let that happen this year.

Here’s what I’m doing….

–Β Downloading the free Prime book.Β Did you know that if you have an Amazon Prime membership, you get a free Kindle book every month? I’ve had Amazon Prime for years now and had no idea this was a thing. It’s not just some crappy book either. They give six editor’s picks and you get to pick one in whatever genre you’re feeling. You can get the Kindle app on your phone or tablet.

– Joining a book club. One of my college besties is also trying to read more this year and started a book club. It’s going to keep me accountable to have others reading the same book by a deadline. I knowΒ ErinΒ hosts a great book challenge too.

– Carrying a book everywhere I go. I read a whole book in a few days just by having it with me all the time. I read it while I waited for things, during lunch, etc. Now that I have some Kindle books, I’ll carry my iPad.

–Make time to read. I started taking more baths because of my constant working out. Sometimes you just need to soak your tired muscles. What this has given me is time to read! Even when I’m not soaking, I still try to carve out a little time every day to read.

– Read books I actually own. I have more books that I own and have never read than I care to admit. I obviously showed interest in these books when I bought them, so this year I am determined to read them!

How are you reading more in 2016?

I'm really trying to read more by intentionally picking up a book instead of mindlessly scrolling through my phone. I've been a Prime member for years and didn't know about about the Kindle deal. Thanks! I also love keeping up with Mrs. Modern Darcy's Kindle deals everyday. I've not bought a full price one in such a long time

I didn't know about the free book from Prime members! That is awesome and I'll definitely be checking it out.

I just need to get more books. I've read every one that I own! I can also never finish books in time that I get from the library.

great tips! i did not know that about prime. i'm on my MILs prime so i bet i don't get that free book, rude. i have a bath almost every night and it's great reading time! i also always have a book on me, it's so much better to read than play on your phone when you find yourself waiting or have free time. good luck with reading more this year πŸ™‚

Ohhh I didn't know about the Prime book!!! We have that so I need to jump on it! You know how I get my reading in? I listen to audiobooks in the car on my way too and from work and I read a regular book on my lunch break most days. Cheers to lots of great reads in 2016!!!!

You read my mind! I just commented on another post about reading (tillthensmileoften.com) and I always wonder how people make time to read all these books! Joining a book club is a great idea as well as carrying one in your purse. I can't seem to get myself in the habit of reading a good novel or two! One of these days…it'll happen.

There seem to be a lot of posts about reading today! I love it since I'm on such a reading kick. I forget how much I love reading. I started another book last night and haven't been able to put it down.

This is one of my goals for the new year too! And I'm excited to report I'm almost 2 books down in 2016! I love my kindle, it's the only reason I've started reading again because you can't beat one handed reading that glows in the dark and you can take anywhere! Plus FREE library books and now, I need to get my Prime freebies too!

I didn't realize I could download the free Amazon book without a Kindle. Good to know! I'm also hoping to read more this year. I have a huge collection of books sitting around that I'd love to read. It's just a matter of actually sitting down and doing it!
