I have had the past two weeks off of work, and it has been GLORIOUS. After a crazy year, I didn’t realize how much I needed a break. We got a lot of things done in our house and for the nursery, but I definitely took some time to relax. I love watching movies, and I had a whole list I wanted to stream over the break.
Here are the movies I streamed over the break and what I thought about them.
The Best
I loved this movie! It’s an Amazon original, so you can stream it for free if you have Amazon Prime. It had old Hollywood glamour and Tessa Thompson is just the cutest. Plus she is has such an inspiring character who goes after her dreams. It’s a beautiful movie, and who doesn’t love a good love story?
Basically anytime Pixar puts out a movie, you know it will be good. “Soul” is no exception. It’s definitely more adult than the other Pixar movies, but I liked watching it as an adult. There are some funny moments, but mostly the movie is about appreciating the little things and being grateful for the people in your life. The main character, Joe, has some lovely moments with his mom and his barber. It just is a great reminder to be thankful for the life you are given. Also, the animation is stunning. You can watch “Soul” on Disney+.
I LOVED “Godmothered” on Disney+. I think Jillian Bell is just hilarious in every role, but I loved her as a Godmother in training. She goes to Earth to help a little girl, but the request is old and it turns out to be all-grown up, Isla Fisher. They are just the perfect duo for this movie. I laughed, I cried, and I am so glad I watched it. It’s a very funny modern, fairytale.
So don’t watch this with your family. It’s definitely more raunchy. However, if you have time alone and want to watch a cute movie, I recommend “Holidate” on Netflix. Two people become each other’s dates for all holidays. We’re talking the major ones, to Cinco De Mayo to St. Patrick’s Day. It takes place over a year and is very cute. Again, don’t watch with your mom, but I liked it a lot.
The Worst
I really wanted to like this on HBO Max, but I didn’t… I am not a superhero movie kind of girl. But I did like the first Wonder Woman. So it was something Stephen and I could watch together. However, this one was kind of a flop. First of all, other than some mall scenes and an outfit montage, it had nothing to do with 1984. They could have done so much more with the music and the clothes, but that part kind of just got left out. Second of all, it really didn’t have anything to do with Wonder Woman. It really could have been any superhero movie. So that was a bummer. It just didn’t hit for me.
Again, I really wanted to like this. “The Prom” started at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, was picked up by Broadway and nominated for a few Tony Awards. I love the Alliance Theater and always support my Atlanta arts. I was really excited when I saw the cast for this movie. However, it flopped. Some things are better left on stage.
I can’t even comment on this one because I didn’t make it very far into the movie before I gave up.
What movies have you been watching lately? I’ve also been watching a lot of shows. I think I need to do a separate post on tv shows to stream.
