“Now add a bit of spice.”
I love hot and spicy food. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a craving during my pregnancy, because I like spicy food all the time, but I am loving having hot food during pregnancy. Hot sauce, spicy salsa and sriracha have been around for awhile, but today I’m sharing some of my newer favorite condiments to give my food a little kick.
First is Truff Hot Sauce. I have been including this on my gift guides for years and this is one of Oprah’s Favorite Things almost every year too. I haven’t really given the breakdown of why I think it’s a great gift. Truff takes hot sauce to the next level. Truff is infused with truffles, chili peppers, and agave nectar. It’s not about being the hottest sauce, it’s about adding flavor. Adding Truff really levels up your dishes for a delightful kick.
For Christmas, I gave Stephen the Truff Hot Sauce Variety Pack. This includes the original Truff Hot Sauce, the White Truff Hot Sauce, and the Truff Hotter Sauce. The White Truff incorporates white truffle, with organic coriander resulting in a brighter flavor. The Hotter Truff is “less sweet, more heat” of the original.
If you are just looking for hot sauce, then Truff isn’t your thing. It really is about the flavors of the sauce. You can still add it to things you would regularly add hot sauce to, but it elevates your dishes. Eggs are great for hot sauce, Stephen puts it on his Firehouse subs, you can make cremas, add to pizzas, tacos and more.
The next spicy condiment I want to talk about is Mike’s Hot Honey. Unlike Truff, hot honey has more of a drizzling consistency. The thing about hot honey is you can pair it with so many things. Anything that would taste good with honey, you can replace with hot honey for a little kick. Think flatbreads, pizzas, desserts, ice cream, baked brie, cheese plates, cocktails, whatever you want!
Mike’s Hot Honey also has an Extra Hot version of the original for those who need more spice.
What is your favorite spicy food? Do you have a spicy condiment I should add to my pantry?
