I’ve always had random breakouts. I can’t really pinpoint when they get worse or better. However, I’m almost 30 years old, so ideally I would like to be done with breakouts at some point in my life. Pregnancy acne was a new beast though. Today I’m sharing how to prevent pregnancy acne.
At the beginning of my first trimester, I had really bad acne! All my new hormones were taking up residence on my chin and it was not cute. In addition, we were now wearing masks all the time, which covered up my chin breakouts, but also contributed to the problem. I had to do something extra than my regular skin routine.
So today, I’m going to share what I’ve been doing during pregnancy to prevent breakouts. Honestly this has been a game changer for my skin, and it has totally transformed since the beginning of pregnancy. While I know it won’t work for everyone this is what I’m doing and using.

Products
Tula Acne Fighting Kit – Level 2 – I love Tula products and will share eventually what I use every day, but during pregnancy I switched over to the acne-fighting kit. This includes the Keep it Clear Foam Cleanser, the Clear It Up gel, and the Go Away spot treatment. I use this set every morning and every evening before bed. I start with the cleanser, follow up with the gel and then if I have a breakout, I use the spot treatment on the area.
Tula Face Filter Primer – Once I got my breakouts in check, I’ve given up foundation completely. I just use this Face Filter Primer. It gives your skin a hint of color, blurs out imperfections and smoothes uneven skin tone. After this I put on a little bit of powder, and cover up dark circles and anything I want to hide with the light powder from my contour palette. I think using less product has made such a difference as well when it comes to pregnancy acne.
Cooling Eye Balm – This is not pregnancy-specific because I use it all the time, but it does help when I’m trying to cover my under eyes without foundation or concealer. I can feel this working almost instantly. It helps me wake up, decreases puff under my eyes and helps with dark circles.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Pink Juice – When I need a little extra hydration, I throw on some pink juice. One of my all-time favorite products.
What I’m Doing
Drinking water – obviously you need water to grow a human. Pre-pregnancy, I kind of slacked on drinking water. During pregnancy though, I can’t get enough. My increase in water intake has really helped hydrate my skin and keep it clear.
Washing my masks – I never wear my mask twice. I do a lot of mask laundry, but I never wear it twice. I use these masks from Target. I have to wear a lot of masks so the 2 for $4 was really appealing. I just tie the earpieces to make them smaller. Plus black goes with everything, but they do have other color options.
Shaving the peach fuzz – I have talked about this multiple times on the blog, but I shave the peach fuzz. By doing this, I get rid of the blonde fuzz on my face, but also exfoliate my skin to bring new skin to the surface. So it helps prevent acne. I use tinkles to do this.
