Is the Monday after the Super Bowl the longest day of the year or what? It’s ok, we will power through together.
The Super Bowl was in Atlanta this weekend, so we went about two hours away to Columbus, Georgia for a little adventure weekend getaway! In this post, I want to share where we stayed, what we did, and most importantly, what we ate! I’ve also included a highlight video at the end of this post, so scroll to the bottom for that!
Where we stayed: Columbus Marriott
This hotel could not have a better location. We parked our car at the hotel and didn’t take it back out again. We were able to walk to every single thing we did in Columbus. It is so centrally located to Uptown Columbus. The lobby has very modern decor, but it’s a lovely old hotel. The staff is beyond friendly and were extremely helpful with all of our questions. I also have to give a huge shout out to the hot water. I like to melt my skin off while I shower or wash my face, and this water was HOT and got hot quickly.
The hotel has a very cute restaurant and bar connected to the lobby. It also hosted three events while we were there! A conference, a smaller event, and while we were leaving they were hosting a murder mystery dinner. It’s definitely a cool place.
What we did:
We spent the day with WhiteWater Express for an adventure day! First up, we zip lined from Georgia to Alabama! They hook you up and you zip over the river. When you land, you’re in Alabama. Once we were there, we did an aerial obstacle course with 10 obstacles. There were times on this where I was seriously terrified. I actually wasn’t worried about falling because I felt like I was securely attached, I was more worried if I fell off the obstacle, what would happen if I couldn’t get back on and I was just dangling there. Even though I was super scared on both the spider obstacle and the one with the huge gaps in between steps, I’m glad I did it.
After the aerial course, we zip lined over to the tree top course. This one was super fun and the obstacles were MUCH easier. In between each obstacle you got to zip line to the next one. I loved this part.
Once we were done, we zipped back to Georgia and hopped on our bicycles. We were able to ride around Columbus and see all the rapids and explore the downtown area.
WhiteWater Express also does WhiteWater rafting. We didn’t do that, but maybe we’ll go back and try it another time.
Where we ate:
For lunch, we visited The Black Cow. This is a cute little rustic charm restaurant in Uptown Columbus. Garden and Gun named their burgers the best in the south, so of course, I had to try one. I had the cheeseburger and Stephen had the Oyster Po Boy. We both licked our plates clean. SO tasty. I agree it’s one of the best burgers in the south.
For dinner, we headed to Smoke Bourbon & BBQ. This restaurant was an upscale barbecue restaurant with amazing drinks and unique dishes that aren’t your typical “pulled pork plate.” They do have that if you want, but also got super creative with their dishes.
Before I dive into the food, I just want to give a huge shout out to our server Aarika. She really went above and beyond and came to check on us constantly. Plus she was so so nice. Real life, some of the best service I’ve ever had–if you go, try to sit in her section!
Ok now let’s talk about this mouth-watering food. We started with some of their unique drinks. I had the Smoke Peach Cobbler. It came in a little bottle and the longer you left the lid on, the smokier the flavor got. Then you pour it over ice and a peach slice and all the flavors blend perfectly. It was SO. GOOD. Stephen had a ginger mule that was also delicious.
We ordered the Pork nachos as a starter–these came with tortilla chips, queso, pulled pork, black bean and corn salsa, sour cream, fresh jalapeños, and a drizzle of homemade bbq sauce. This was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. We ate the entire plate–and it was a big plate.
For our entrées, I had the Pig Mac which was a pulled pork sandwich with bacon and macaroni and cheese. You read that right, mac and cheese on the burger. Just so much yes to this. Also, their fries are so tasty. Like crispy on the outside and soft of the inside. Total perfection. Stephen had the Gnocci and Brisket that he totally loved too. We were huge fans of Smoke.
We ended the night in Uptown Columbus. We visited The Loft, Scruffy Muphy’s Irish Pub, and Nonic Craft Beer Bar. All were really fun, but we spent the majority of our time at The Loft because they had live music.
That’s it! Have you ever been on a Zip Line before? Have you ever been to Columbus, Georgia?
A zip line from Georgia to Alabama? Sign me up! I love zip lining, to end up in a different state takes it to the next level!
What a fun trip! That sandwich is enough to make me want to visit.
What an awesome adventure!
It looks like you two had a great time!! I’ve only been to Georgia once (quick trip to Atlanta) but it looks like Columbus is a great destination also!

Lots of fun active things to do!
That looks like so much fun! I would be scared of the ziplining haha
This looks like the perfect weekend away!! With the weather being terribly cold here, I can only dream of being able to get away for a weekend somewhere and wear short sleeves while doing activities outside. Looks like a blast!
When you come back to Columbus, please consider taking a fun historical tour with us!
