Guys–I’ve been reading….and also listening to audiobooks. We’re hands-free in Georgia now, but more on that next week. Whatever. It doesn’t matter how I read them. Books have been consumed and we’re going to talk about them.
Let’s just dive right in.
A Simple Favor by Darcey Bell. This is the upcoming movie with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. Quite honestly Blake and Anna are way too hot to play the girls that are in this book, but man I can’t wait to see the movie. It’s my turn to host book club this month. I picked this book so we can all go see the movie together when it comes out. This book is about two best friends, Emily and Stephanie, who both have sons. One day, Emily asks Stephanie if her son can spend the night at their house. When Emily doesn’t return, Stephanie looks into her disappearance and shenanigans ensues. While I liked the book, I have even higher hopes for the movie. I thought the plot was really good, but not one single character in this book was likeable. It had a lot of great twists and turns that, although predictable, made it interesting.
Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. This book is about giving yourself grace without giving up. Hollis acknowledges the lies women have been told their whole life and brings light to the truth in humorous and real ways. Everyone and their mama is reading this book, but it’s great! I really really liked it. It inspired me to be less hard on myself and remember that I’m not perfect, not even close, but that’s ok.
When Life Gives You Lululemons: A Devil Wears Prada Novel by Lauren Weisberger. Guys! This book is about Emily! Remember the other assistant from Devil Wears Prada?? Don’t worry, Miranda makes an appearance in this book too and she is still a riot. This is the perfect beach read for summer and a nice break from all the mysteries I read. It’s an easy read but the characters are fabulous. I loved it!
One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus. 5 high school students go to detention. Only 4 come out. It has a very Breakfast Club feel but with a murder plot line twist. I LOVED this book. I couldn’t put it down. Yes I am 27 and this is kind of a young adult book, but I really really liked it. I thought I had it all figured out and I was dead wrong. If you like mysteries you should defs check this one out.
All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin. This is the next book from the other who gave us Something Borrowed and First Comes Love. This is another great beach read and one I couldn’t put down. I thought it was really lovely how Giffin intertwined three different narratives into one story. This is actually my favorite of Giffin’s books edging out Something Borrowed. It’s a real page turner.
Alright! That’s it for now. What are you reading this summer?
