Happy Monday! I told you there would be lots more Charleston Fashion Week posts to come! Today we are talking about the actual designers and fashion at the show because all of it was fire. Fire I’m telling you!!
Charleston Fashion Week places a lot of emphasis on the Emerging Designer Competition. Every night they showcase a few pieces from each of the emerging designer’s collections. At the end of the week, the finalists showcase their entire collection and a panel of judges selects the winner. In addition, throughout the week there are featured designers, local Charleston boutique and designers, and a model competition. It’s kind of a mix of America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway. It’s awesome!
Ok, before we get to the list of designers. Let’s check out some photos of the fashion!!
It’s all so good right?! So the Emerging Designer Competition Finalists were:
–Kelly Callaway – This designer is 12 years old. 12! What was I doing at 12? I don’t even remember but it certainly wasn’t showing my beautiful collection at fashion weeks.
–Joan Madison – This collection brought the entire audience to it’s feet. Joan created couture gowns that were white and black and gold. Each gown had a fabulous head piece or a cape. It was amazing. She won the people’s choice vote (obviously) because the entire audience lost their collective mind when these gowns came down the runway.
–Tygerian Burke – Tygerian created a modern but fun collection in red and black. The pieces featured lace and fringe and sparkles in all the right places. Her collection won the emerging designer competition.
–Kenya Freeman – You know this name because Kenya was on Project Runway. Her collection was ready to wear and fabulous! It was perfect for the glam 9-5 woman.
–Patresea Peppers – This was the most interesting and unique collection. Patresea focused on the detailing and themed her collection around melting glaciers. There were a lot of acrylic head and neck pieces. It was very interesting and fun to watch.
AND My honorable mention:
Tina Gancev was my favorite. Her collection didn’t make it to the finale shows, but I love love love love loved it and I want people to see it. She took inspiration from gemstones and created very intricate detailing on all of her gowns that resembled natural gems.
Have I mentioned that I was in heaven for this week? I loved visiting Charleston Fashion Week and can’t wait for next year!
ok STOP how awesome is this! looks like you had a blast friend!
okay, these are freaking fab! Whoever was the makeup artist did an amazing job. Makeup is on point.
Looks like you had a great time. I love some of those looks!
This looks awesome! At 12, I had just discovered basic sewing and maybe some embroidery. I definitely wasn’t ready for a fashion show!
That sounds like so much fun!
Looks like so much fun. Going to a fashion show is definitely on my bucket list!
How fun to see! Are you serious that there was a 12-year-old designer featured?! Wow!
This is so cool! When I was 12, I was a designer in my own wardrobe but it’s amazing to see that no matter your age you can accomplish great things! You also made me want to visit Charleston even more.
These are great looks! It would be so fun to go to a fashion show.
What a cool experience. I’d love to go to a fashion week as I still haven’t.
