I love hot chocolate during Christmas! There is nothing more festive than a cup of hot cocoa by the fireplace with a Christmas movie on in the background.
Creating a hot chocolate bar is also the perfect touch for your holiday party or Christmas dinner. Imagine all your friends and family gathered around your tree with hot chocolate mustaches. Sounds like a pretty good evening, right?
Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite tips to create the perfect hot chocolate bar.
1. Make your hot chocolate–up until today, I’ve always made instant cocoa. However, Stephen is a big believer of making it correctly. So he heats up milk and then adds the chocolate. It actually is better haha. I have heard you can make hot chocolate in the crock pot, so I am definitely going to try that before the Christmas season is over. I like mine hot, hot, hot and extra chocolate-y.
2. Have a variety of toppings–select a lot of toppings to make the perfect cup. I like marshmallows, candy canes, peppermint bark, and chocolate sauce. I found some really cute chocolate and peppermint marshmallows at the store. They are perfect for a cup of hot chocolate. Some other ideas are chocolate shavings, chocolate wafer sticks, and chocolate chips.
3. Add Festive Decorations–I used my glitter sleigh full of ornaments and my happy snowman. You could also use garland, cranberries, fake snow, whatever! I like the idea of having matching jars for your toppings and adding a festive bow, or red and white ribbon. Next time, I will plan ahead a little more to make it extra festive!
Three questions this time: How do you like your hot chocolate–more chocolate or more milk? What’s your favorite topping? Also, what Christmas movie can you not get enough of right now?
I love hot chocolate. It’s my drink of choice from early fall till the next spring. I like to make my own hot chocolate from scratch, because it tastes so much better and I like to use dark cocoa powder and soy milk. Cinnamon or shredded coconut are my favourite things to sprinkle on top.
I’ve always wanted to create a hot chocolate bar! Yours looks amazing!
Yes please!!! I’m here trying to come up with a menu and theme for my Boxing Day holiday party and I am LOST! These look delightful! *stealing*
Here in MA we put marshmallow fluff on top! It’s gooey and sweet and keeps the cocoa lava like hot! Personally, I’ll put a little vanilla vodka in it if it’s a weekend night.
OK, that looks SO CUTE!!!!! I actually have never made hot chocolate from scratch…I’ve always just used a packet. HA!
Such a fun idea to do with your girlfriends or even a young group of kids! There are always so many fun add-ons you could use – I personally love Andes mints in my hot chocolate to give it a fun minty taste that melts completely in the hot chocolate!
We have a hot chocolate bar for the kids (and ourselves too) and we have different marshmallows, candy canes, and 2 different kinds of cocoa. We love it.
Oh I want hot chocolate now! This is so pretty. I have one that I set up a few months ago and I love it. I need to get some pretties like this to add to it now.
