So we’ve moved. Our house is still a little bit in shambles. We have boxes all over the place, empty rooms, and plans to make some spaces great. I finally finished my first DIY project this weekend for my “Cloffice” (Closet-office). I saw these shelves awhile ago and loved them. However, since we’re just renting our house and I’m not sure what we will move into next, I just couldn’t bring myself to buy really expensive shelves I may not get to keep in the next place we live.
So I came up with an alternative! I really wanted white, gold and marble shelves. I figured I could buy some spray paint and marble contact paper and create my own. I thought I was really clever coming up with this plan, but it turns out it’s already in the universe multiple times. So while not totally original, I’ll tell you what I used to achieve my look.
I bought two of these VITTSJÖ shelves from Ikea, and used Krylon Premium Metallic Spray Paint in Gold. I spray painted all the pieces of the shelves separately in my yard, then carried them upstairs to assemble. I found that to be easier. Don’t forget to spray paint the white attachment pieces as well.
I then covered the glass shelves in this marble contact paper. Finally I (Stephen) put the shelves together and stood them up.
I am totally in love with them. I’m so pleased that I could have these fancy looking shelves for less than $200 (for two, if you only want one it’s even cheaper than that.)
I’m waiting on a few more pieces to come in this week, then I’m hoping to finally have a full home-“cloffice” reveal on the blog next week. It’s quickly become my new happy place and I can’t wait to share it with y’all, but for now here is a little sneaky peek.
Clearly there are some holes and gaps, but that’s where I’m at so far. I really can’t wait to have it completed!
What’s your favorite DIY project lately?
I love everything about this! My husband has recently begun using spray paint on his miniatures, and whenever he drags me to Home Depot or Loews I deliberate on what I could do with the metallic spray paints. I always worried that they might look too fake, but these shelves look great!
OMG! That looks amazing! I seriously love how spray paint can magically make everything better!
These turned out SUPER cute…I love spray paint for this type of stuff!
Wow, this looks so good! What a great idea! I need to get some of that contact paper!
This is amazing!! I’m moving in with my fiance this week and we are definitely in need of some DIY projects. I will for sure try this!
This is GENIUS! I should do this when I get a bigger place for my beauty room.
This turned out so great!! It looks pretty easy to do too!
These looks so good, and maybe not that hard, too! Double bonus!!
