Saturday night, Stephen and I planned to have a pizza competition. As in, we needed two pizzas and so we were going to each make one and decide which was better. We both knew we would vote for our own, but were going to do it anyway. The deal got even sweeter when I found out my sister would be in town for the night. Voila! All of the sudden we had three people, and a perfect number for a fair contest.
It was a total blast! We went to the store, purchased our ingredients, and created our masterpieces. I made up a scoring sheet and the first annual Pizza Palooza was born. I highly anticipated at least one or three of our pizzas being totally inedible, but they actually all three turned out really, REALLY well. So I’m sharing our recipes today in hopes it will inspire your own Pizza Palooza at your house. I promise, it is such a fun idea for a night when you don’t have anything going on. We had way too much fun!
Oh, our constant variable was our crust! We used the Pillsbury pizza dough because we came up with this idea that morning and that’s what we could pull off. All of these were baked on 400 degrees.
Third Place: Mushroom Philly Cheese steak Pizza
I came in third place, I think because I didn’t put any meat on my pizza. I don’t love a lot of meat, so I went with a veggie, cheesy pizza.

-Olive Oil
-Sliced provolone cheese
-Onion
-Green pepper
-Mushrooms
-Mozzarella

Steps:
-Slice and chop mushrooms, green pepper, and onion. As much as desired.
-Saute veggies in a tablespoon of olive oil
-Spread pizza dough on greased sheet.
-Brush garlic spread and olive oil onto crust
-Bake crust for 7-ish minutes
-Place a layer of sliced provolone cheese
-Sprinkle sauteed veggies
-Spread layer of shredded mozzarella
-Top with Parmesan
-Bake for 10-ish minutes. Until cheese is melted.
2nd Place: Stephen’s Man Pizza
Stephen’s pizza became deep dish because we ran out of cookie sheets, so he made his in a casserole dish. His objective was to put lots of meat on his pie.
Ingredients:
-Basil Pesto Alfredo
-Sausage
-Salami
-Shredded Chicken
-Smoked Cheddar Cheese
-Jalepeno Pepper Jack
-Parmesan
Steps:
-Press pizza dough into bottom and sides of casserole dish for deep dish effect
-Bake for 8 minutes
-Brown ground sausage in large skillet
-When pizza crust comes out of the oven, spread basil pesto alfredo
-Spread sausage, salami, shredded chicken, smoked cheddar cheese, and pepper jack
-Top with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese
1st Place: Charlotte’s Mexican Style Pizza
Char was the winner winner chicken dinner. She created a Mexican style pizza that was totally delicious.
Ingredients:
-Mexican blend cheese
-Avocado
-Lime
-Chopped lettuce
-Melted queso
-Shredded chicken (we bought pre-cooked pre-shredded in the Kroger “What’s for Dinner?” section)
-Taco Seasoning
-Salsa
Steps:
-Press pizza dough onto greased cookie sheet
-Pre-bake crust for a few minutes (7-ish)
-Chop lettuce
-Mix shredded chicken with taco seasoning
-Stir avocado and lime juice together in a bowl
-When crust comes out, spread with thin layer of salsa
-Spread chicken and Mexican blend cheese
-Bake for 10-ish minutes
-Microwave your queso
-When the pizza comes out of the oven spread chopped lettuce
-Drop spoonfuls of guacamole
-Douse the whole pizza with queso. We like queso, but to each their own…
