I love a good mystery! My favorite stories are the ones when I can’t predict the ending. If you can shock me with your twist ending, I will forever love that story. Think Sixth Sense, The Uninvited, My Sister’s Keeper (the book, not the movie), Big Little Lies. I am obnoxious to go to the movies with because I make it a point to try to predict the ending before it’s over. One time, I predicted the ending from a commercial, and when we went to see the movie everyone was furious with me.
So instead, I try to stick to suspenseful books. That way if I call the ending, it’s just in my own head and I don’t lose any friends. So I’m picking some beachy mysteries and fast reads to accompany me to the pool this summer. These are my picks:
The Woman in Cabin 10– This is the book I picked for book club this month. It came so highly recommended by Oprah and the New York Times. Plus it takes place on a cruise ship, so it’s perfect for the summer. This sounded like an easy read to enjoy with a margarita and a sun hat.
Into the Water – And we’ll just keep it going with the mysteries of women in the water. This is written by Paula Hawkins who wrote Girl On The Train. I LOVED that book, so her latest book is absolutely on my list for the summer.
All the Missing Girls – According to The Skimm, “This thriller’s all of your fave page-turners (think: Luckiest Girl Alive, The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl) rolled into one.” UM, can you say yes, please??
One of Us Is Lying – I read that this is supposed to be like Pretty Little Liars meets The Breakfast Club. That is my favorite tv show and my favorite movie so you best believe I’m reading this one. From all the teasers, five people walk into detention and four walk out.
The Couple Next Door – This one is teased with “the twists come as fast as fast as you can turn the pages.” Remember how I said I love a good twist?? I certainly hope this book delivers.
Have you read any of these? Will I be pleased with the endings??
I’m terrible at predicting the ending, but my husband is always really good at it, so it can be hard to watch shows/movies with him too, haha. I just finished Into the Water, and enjoyed it, though it moved a bit slow for me at times and I don’t think it was AS suspenseful as Girl on the Train. One of Us is Lying is on my TBR, and I hope to get to it sometime this summer.
I’m really bad at predicting endings too but I do love a good mystery novel. If a book is good I’ll finish it in a day. The last book I decided to read… I thought I’d go for a lovely bath and start the book. Well, the first page was about a woman being murdered in the bath… lol. So I wasn’t in there for very long. O_O
I do that too! I binge read books. That is hilarious! I say that was a good call to hop out!
