I love dry shampoo. I have a lot of hair and don’t like to wash it everyday. Using dry shampoo is a huge time saver and works almost as well as a real wash when used correctly. I thought it would be fun today to do a compare and contrast of some of the most popular brands. Basically, I’m saying I tried them all so you don’t have to!
A couple of things to remember when using dry shampoo to get the maximum effect: don’t go more than three days without a real wash to prevent breakage and dry scalp, spray at least 8 inches away, and be sure to brush out the dry shampoo after a minute or so. I just recently learned how to properly apply dry shampoo, and taking these precautions makes all the difference.
Ok, here we go:
L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay – This “clay in a spray” is new. I’m digging all these products L’Oreal is coming out with, but this one is particularly good. It uses the clay to remove oils without leaving that white nasty residue. Plus it smells really good and the price can’t be beat. I give it three out of five stars.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day – So this one is awesome because it actually gives you clean feeling hair rather than just covering up your greasy roots. However, it kind of smells like a nursing home. I felt like every time I moved my head during the day I got a wiff of floral baby powder. It’s actually my favorite dry shampoo, but that smell is a bit much. I give it four out of five.
Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe – I love this one for the days I sport the mermaid hair. If you follow my Instagram stories, you’ll hear me complain a lot about my early wake-up time, but you will also see my natural wave because I don’t get up early enough. This is a texturized dry shampoo so it’s perfect when I rock the mermaid. I only use it on lazy days and it does require a bit more product to get coverage so I give it three out of five
Dove Refresh + Care – This was the only dry shampoo I used for a long time because I got comfy. However, once I opened my eyes, I realized it’s not the best on the market. It’s definitely good with removing the greasy roots, but leaves white residue. It’s fine for me because my hair is so light, but not ideal. I give it two out of five.
Batiste Tropical – This is my favorite smelling product. It smells like a piña colada, and is SO CHEAP! At first, I expected cheap to not work, but it does. I really like it. I would say this is my second favorite. Can I give it four and a half out of five?
Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo for light tones – Alright, this is my winner. This smells amazing, is excellent in removing oil, and perfect for my blonde hair. One of the most obnoxious things for me is any residue from dry shampoo, but with the matched hair tones that isn’t an issue. They also make a version for dark tones. It’s a little pricier, but truly the best of the best. I give it five out of five.
What is your favorite dry shampoo?
Batiste and living proof are my go to brands for dry shampoo! I only use dry shampoo for texture though since I have dry hair already.
The price can’t be beat on Batiste and I feel like my hair feels so healthy with Living Proof. Great choices!
I really love the Dry Bar Dry Shampoo as well. Right now, I use Batiste as my “budget” brand
I love the Dry Bar Dry Shampoo too. I didn’t include it in this post because I didn’t think it was as widely known, but clearly lots of people love it! Have you tried the whipped foam yet?
I’ve been looking for a good dry shampoo that doesn’t leave a white residue in my hair. Thanks for these recommendations! I’ll have to give these a try.
That’s my biggest pet peeve. I really feel good about a lot of these. The price on some of them are amazing too!
Thanks so much for doing all the research! I’ve only tried two of these, but I am DEFINITELY trying your top pick now!
It’s awesome! Hope you love it!
I’ve never tried using dry shampoo. I just might to have my hair smell like a pina colada though!
It’s amazing! Perfect for keeping your hair feeling clean and pretty without having to wash every day.
I. Love. Dry shampoo. I haven’t tried any of these, but Dry Bar has an excellent dry shampoo. I also like Paul Mitchell 🙂
I love the Dry Bar brand a lot too! I also saw they just came out with a dry shampoo whipped foam. Have you tried this??
I love Batiste – I’ll have to try some of the others.
I love it too. Cheap and smells amazing! Can’t be beat.
Batiste Tropical is my favorite, along with one you haven’t mentioned here (it’s by Sun Bum and I also like it for the smell). I’m all about the great smelling options 🙂 Great review!
I will have to try that one! Thank you!
I love the smell of the Batiste tropical one, in glad I found this because I’ve been trying to find the best dry shampoo.
Me too! That smell is incredible!
Completely agree with Living Proof…it works MAGICALLY but what is that smellllll?!
Right?? It’s by far the best dry shampoo, but it makes me want to gag!
Dry shampoos are a saviour. Even though i dont use much,I used Dove and Moroccan oil twice or thrice and for me, Moroccanoil is definitely the winner 🙂
I use it almost every day haha! I just love it!
I’ve been on the hunt for the best dry shampoo so I’m going to have to pick up that Moroccanoil one. I always spray too close to my scalp too, gotta get out of that habit!
That is my worst habit. I feel like if I’m closer it will get cleaner. I’m wrong lol!
I use batiste but am a huge fan of Moroccan oil hair oil. Will defo have to try their dry shampoo
It’s my favorite! I just love what it does for my roots!
My favorite is Batiste! I go through these cans like crazy. I will have to try to Moroccan oil one though 🙂
