It’s almost Christmas, absolutely my favorite time of the year. I am so excited to spend time with my family and friends and, of course, Stephen! It’s our first Christmas that we have ever actually spent together. The rule growing up was once you’re married, your significant other can come for Christmas. Welp, I did that this year so that means matching jammies for Stephen. I’m so excited.
One of our favorite traditions is going to see Christmas lights. We’ve been a little off our game this year, but we did squeeze some in this week. I’ve compiled my list of favorite spots in Georgia to see some awesome Christmas lights.
#1 Atlanta Botanical Gardens. It’s beautiful and right next to our apartment. What could be better? This is where we went this week. We usually try to make a journey, but with how strapped for time we were, these were perfect. Also, I totally tried to buy this tree for my living room, but the security guard said no.
Highlights: The woman with hair of lights on the fountain and the sound globes on the lawn.
#2 Callaway Gardens. If you can get over the fact that it’s usually freezing, and the teenagers are really obnoxious, then these lights make for a pretty spectacular show. You ride in a cute little trolley down the path of lights spread throughout the whole garden. You can also take your own car for a teenager-free experience haha!
Highlights: The amazing tunnel created by white lights and the swans in the lake. Apparently these are easy, but I love them.
#3 Lake Lanier. These used to be the worst lights in Georgia, but they’ve updated and are now pretty good! You can ride in your own car, which I like so I can stay warm, and drive around the island looking at lights. Lovely.
Highlights: 12 Days of Christmas
#4 Gaddy’s Christmas Extravaganza. I think this one is so impressive because IT IS A HOUSE! This is just a family that decorates their house like Christmas on steroids. You can drive through and see different scenes from movies, the North Pole, and more. This amazing house is located in Fayetteville, GA.
Highlights: Um this is a house, and it’s free!
#5 Chinese Lantern Festival at Centennial Olympic Park. So this is a cool thing going on right now in Atlanta. They are having a full-blown Chinese festival for over a month. They have performances, light up dragons, lanterns etc. I haven’t been yet, but it’s on my list to do before they close in January.
Highlights: It’s unique and again, in my backyard.
So if you’re travelling to Georgia this month and checking out lights, these are a few of my favorites.
What light displays do you love in your state?
I do love Christmas lights! I’ve not got to see many this year though. I usually go to Nottingham (I live in the UK) at Christmas I love all the decorations they have in the city!
Merry Christmas !
