I have been MIA this week. I totally know it, but I have a good excuse because… I’m engaged! 🙂 In case you have missed every shameless photo of my ring on Instagram, Stephen proposed and we’re getting married hopefully this fall or I’ll have to change my wedding hashtag! Kidding y’all…I’m so happy. I walk around all day every day with a big smile on my face.
Wedding planning is SUPER stressful, but I keep telling myself at the end of it all I get to marry my favorite person in the world so it’s totally worth it.
Because I’m a total girl, here’s how he did it…
Three years ago, we went to Gatlinburg for a mountain weekend to celebrate our first anniversary. We stopped at this BEAUTIFUL little viewing site on the side of the mountain next to a river. There was a tree where lots of people carved their initials, so of course, we did too. It will forever be known as “our spot.”
We went back last weekend for our fourth anniversary, and decided to take that same route so we could go back and see our spot. We arrived, and of course, our tree was cut down haha. It was all ok though because it was a gorgeous day. So we walked down to this boating dock and he started saying all these wonderful things. I had no idea he was proposing so I kept answering him. It finally, clicked when he reached into his pocket and got down on one knee.
I just kept saying, “What? Oh my god?” neither of which is an actual yes. So finally, I said yes and started hugging him and crying. But he was worried the ring would fly in the river so he closed the box, to which I responded, “Wait…can I have that?” Suffice it to say..the proposal was perfect…I was not. I blame it on being so surprised.
THEN! He told me he had another surprise. My best friend, her husband, and their new puppy drove over from Memphis and were hiding and photographing the whole thing. They had also gotten there early and set up a Go-pro so we could have video. They brought champagne and we got to celebrate with our friends, which really just made the whole day perfect.
Ok, last thing and then more pictures…I was so happy all weekend to be engaged, but sad because my brother is at basic training and I couldn’t call and tell him. I had written him a letter to send when we got home, but it’s not the same. I miss him all the time. Sunday night he had earned four minutes of phone time and called me and I got to tell him the whole thing. I was bawling because A) it was the first time I’ve heard his voice in well over a month and B) because he was the one person who was missing from my perfect weekend.
In case you couldn’t tell, I’m really happy. I’m in love with my best friend and now we get to hang out for the rest of our lives.
Congrats! The proposal sounds like it couldn't have been more perfect, on top of the fact that your friends were there to document the whole thing!

I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU! THE RING IS PERFECT (aka like seriously my dream ring!) EEEK!
Congratulations. I would totally have done the same thing as Stephen and closed the box. Or not even had been out where a ring could be dropped and lost.
Congratulations Helen!! Love the ring! You'll make a beautiful bride <3
