This weekend I went to a Caribbean themed party. How much do I love theme parties? SO much. I would rather go to a theme party over any other type party, and this party was right up my alley because I really just want to be a mermaid.
Anyways, the party was super fun, but the highlight for me was rocking this flower crown all night.
I received so many compliments and “where did you get thats” so I decided the crown warranted it’s own post. The answer is, I made it…kind of. I’ve seen plenty of posts using green wire and gardening tape, but quite honestly I’m just not crafty enough for that and was being kind of last minute. I made mine the easy way.
To make it, I used:
-1 pre-made flower crown from Michael’s
-1 fake white orchid from Michael’s floral department
-1 package of small assorted shells from Michael’s
-1 bushel of purple flowers in the $1 bins at the front of Target
– hot glue
-3 small starfish from Michael’s
First, I took the pre-made flower crown I bought from Michael’s for $3.99 and ripped all the stuff that I didn’t want off of it. Yes, I’m serious. The crown I bought had blue flowers and yellow beads. I was left with the green crown ring with no flowers. Perfect!
After I massacred the original flower crown, I popped the flowers off of the fake orchid and the flower bushel, and glued them in an alternating pattern across the front. I added a starfish about every third of the way.
At this point, I was out of the white flowers, but still had plenty of purple flowers so I glued the remaining flowers along the backside of the crown to give it a fuller look.
Finally, I glued the small shells on the remaining green spaces.
Voila! All done. Now wasn’t that easy?? It took maybe 30 minutes tops, involved no wire cutters, and looked spectacular. I’m all about doing things the easy way.
On a different note, I am obsessed with my pretty baubles from the party.
It was a great time, and now I’m just looking for another excuse to wear this ensemble again.
Sorry for the awesome quality of this photo… this is what happens when you let boys take photos.

Do you have any fun crafty life hacks?
I love that you added the starfish to it!! Super cute. Also, I'M LOVE LOVE LOVING the new layout!
I want to wear it all the time! I love it too, every time I see it I forget that it's my blog!
I LOVE THE STARFISH! I didn't even originally notice them! for what it's worth, that pinterest "easy DIY" where you make it with florist tape + wire? NOT. THAT. EASY. or at least, not easy enough for me. THIS one definitely looks like something I can + will be doing super soon.
RIGHT?! I'm not crafty enough to pull that off. I'm all about the arts and crafts life hacks. Can't wait to see yours!
I love this! Adding the starfish is such a great idea.
Thank you! I love it so much, I want to wear it all the time.
LOL. I love that you massacred the old crown to make a new one. So cute! I'm majorly impressed with your craftiness.
Gotta do what you gotta do!
Oh my. Your flower crown may be my favorite I've seen because of the Caribbean vibes! It's adorable! Why can't there be more acceptable ways to wear things like that everyday?
Thank you! I love it so much. I just want to wear it all the time. I'll be honest I might have worn it in my house last night while watching Little Mermaid on ABC Family…
Wow, that is honestly so crafty! Very impressive. It turned out really pretty, too! I love the addition of the sea-themed accessories; not something you normally see on flower crowns, but it definitely works. ๐

Love the crown – you are talented. Also love the theme of the wedding for obvious reasons!
